A few months ago Disney announced the release dates for some new Pixar films. Now I use the word ‘new’ loosely. In fact only 2 out of 6 movies are original story lines. The rest are spin-off sequels of their existing movies. So the next Pixar movie to premiere is the lightly publicized The Good Dinosaur. My understanding is that it will be about what would happen if Dinosaurs and cavemen co-existed. Now like any new Pixar film, I predict that this movie will be charming and fun. I like to think back to when I saw Inside Out, which was Pixar’s most recent film. When entering the theater, I had no idea what the movie was going to be about I was confused as to what the concept was, even though I have previously seen the trailer for it. I was skeptical but afterwards, I was extremely satisfied and loved the movie. I have no doubt that The Good Dinosaur will do the same.
As far as the other original concept movie that Pixar will be releasing in 2017: Coco. I am extremely curious as to what this movie will be about. I am curious is the main characters will be people or if the main characters will be some other type of creature. Overall, this movie will be based off of the Mexican holiday The Day of the Dead, La dia de los muertos. I am also curious on how they are going to handle the depiction of this festive and sacred holiday. If I know Disney Pixar, then they will do a great job with this topic.
Now to address the multiple sequels, Finding Dory, Toy Story 4, Cars 3, and Incredibles 2, why?
Pixar is trying to capitalize on the popularity of their older movies. Disney Animation has had terrible popularity for their sequels to their animated movies, but Pixar is just the opposite. The multiple Toy Story movies were all popular and successful. I personally love the entire Toy Story series. BUT, I am thoroughly disappointed that there will be a Toy Story 4. We all thought that the Toys were passed on and that Toy Story 3 was the end of Toy Story so I wish that we could just end it. I would like to imagine that the Toys are happy with their new owner. I could not possibly imagine what kind of trouble the toys could get into now in the 4th installment.
As for Finding Dory I think this is a great idea and I look forward to seeing it! Cars 3 I am not a huge fan of. I enjoyed the first Cars movie but the second movie Cars 2 was slightly lack luster for my taste, low and behold I did not enjoy it. As for Incredibles 2, this should be interesting. I think that The Incredibles was a great, underrated movie and I look forward to seeing what the baby Jack Jack will be up to in this movie.
